The rock band INXS are taking their search for a new lead singer to television. "Rock Star: INXS" premiered last night with Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke hosting. The band are looking for a new lead singer, but not a replacement for Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997.After an extensive search, the 15 best rockers in all the world were invited for a 3 month audition process in LA. One of them will be the new lead singer for INXS, making an album and touring with the band. There doesn't seem to be any promise to keep the singer beyond that. I suppose that will ultimately be down to whether or not the new person fits with the band.
Brooke Burke welcomed the potentials to LA and the mansion they would be staying in during the audition process. During this three months process the viewer at home will be able to help INXS decide who should become the new INXS member. Dave Navarro is also helping the band decide.
Immediately on the first night they had to perform one song, and after that one of them would be sent home. Only later it appeared that the person sent home would be the next day.
Up first was Jordis singing "Baba O'Riley" by The Who. She sounded good and the band thought she was really good.
Marty, from Chicago, Illinois sang "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks. He looked like a quiet guy, but he completely changed and rocked out onstage. The band thought he was interesting.
Tara from Toronto, Canada sang "Middle Of The Road", The Pretenders with very big vocals. INXS thought she was a really good singer and had a voice that could cut anything.
Singing "Brown Sugar" by The Rolling Stone was Neal from Queens, New York. He semed rather fake to me, like he was imitating, rather than doing his own thing. The band liked him though, saying he was comfortable in his own skin.
Daphna from New York, New York sang "One Way Or Another" by BLondie. She sounded good. Dave really liked her, saying there was something dazzling about her. The band liked the tone of her voice.
One of my favorites was Ty from Los Angeles, California. He sang "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour. I was really blown away by him. He has a good voice and great stage presence. The band liked his personality and his pitch. Dave called him modern and classic at the same time.
Dana from Las Vegas, Nevada did a very bad job singing "Knocking on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan. Dave said her screaming was sexy for about 5 seconds, then it became uncomfortable.
Deanna sang "Piece of My Heart" by Janis Joplin. It sounded very good. Garry Beers said she had one of the strongest voices and she would be able to do the job the next day. Dave told the band that if they got rid of her, he would quit.
Mig from Sydney, Australia sang "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. It was an okay performance. Dave pointed out he was singing too high, but one of the INXS members said the crowd loved him.
Jessica from Chicago, Illinois sang "Celebrity Skin" by Hole. Tim Farriss, the guitarist for INSX said that she has a real big voice from a little girl and that she'd be able to surprise a lot of people in the audition process with it.
Wil from Charlotte, North Carolina sang "Heroes." He has an amazing voice. His song was slower compared to the others, but still rocked it. One of the band members said Wil seemed to be performing to the girls near him, but he didn't "feel" it.
Heather from Atlanta, Georgia sang "Burning Down The House" by Talking Heads. Jon Farriss, drummer for INXS, said she was funky and that she was her own thing. Personally I thought see did just a mediocre performance.
Brandon from Beaverton, Michigan sang "Rock And Roll All Nite" by Kiss. It was a very energetic performance. Garry Beers said he already felt inspired.
JD, New glasgow, Canada sang "American Woman" by The Guess Who. It seems like he has an attack while performing, felt like he was having a stroke. His voice was good though.Jon Farriss said that there's always a line that you shouldn't cross and that JD might have crossed that line. I presume he was talking about how JD grabbed one girl's hair and looked like he was attacking her. Dave Nevarro said he looked a bit possessed.
Suzie from Toronto, Canada sang "Remedy" by Black Crowes. She forgot her lyrics and started with the second verse first. This was something the band wouldn't take lightly.
Afterwards, the 15 potentials went back to the mansion and had a bit of a party, which continued in the morning after they slept. They had a large jam session, where some of the potentials sounded very good. Daphna sang about losing her father not too long ago.
Later that day, the group was let into the room where Tim Farriss and Dave Navarro were with them announcing who would be going home. They sent out 12 people and only three people were left with them. They wanted to tell those three how they could possibly improve, and why the person being cut would be cut.
Tim told JD that he had lots of potential, but overdid his performance last night. He told Dana she had great tone in her voice, but her vocals that let her down the night before. Her pitching was odd. For Suzie he had of course the remark that she forgot her lyrics and that the band didn't take that lightly. He wondered, if she already would fold under the pressure of 1,000 people, what would happen if she would be performing in front of a crowd of 50,000 people.
Regardless of their issues, the first one sent out of the room and to be safe was JD.
In the end the band thought Dana's vocals needed too much improvement within 3 months. Even though they didn't take Suzie forgetting the lyrics very lightly they thought the vocals was a bigger issue and Dana was sent home.
The show on Tuesday will feature each of the 14 remaining potentials singing a song. From what was said last night, it appears that the public will get to vote, with the results being shown on Wednesday in a 30 minute episode.
I think Ty is all hpye (by the show). He has the mohawk and pleasing smile, but his voice isn't soulful nor is it strong enough to sing rock. However, demographically I'm sure he'll be around awhile. Jordis is the true star of the show. People always talk about stars having "it" but can't explain "it". I can't either, but watching Jordis sing Heart Shaped Box was definitely a case of having "it". Her voice is powerful, soulful and rock heavy combined with an amazing stage presence. She is definlty the one that should win this thing
I was just wondering if Tara is the lead singer from the band Joydrop. She looks just like her and they are both from Toronto. My boyfriend is positive it is her. We even looked her up to watch her video "I sometimes wanna die".
i think jordis is going to make it, i don't no why but i can just feel it. and is is written all over her i mean she is diffrent from every one and the stars is always saying shes got what it takes, she got style and the voice is there. young full of energy and syle and a voice to back it up what more do you need
it seems that JD has already won as the band reacts to him. though there are other singers that are better, the band focus's most on JD. I beleive marty has potential as the lead singer for inxs. I think it was a wrong decision to cut neal. jessica was simply horrible. not to put her down but hendrix wasn't her thing.
I think last week's show was great! There was only one thing I didnt like and that was Ty's performance of "Somebody Told Me". I'm a fan of The Killers and I don't think he did that song well at all. I had to turn the volume down during it because it hurt my ears to listen to how horrible it was, and it wasn't too loud to begin with. He sang it his own way which is fine, but I don't think it can be sung any other way than the way Brandon Flowers, the frontman for The Killers, sings it. Ty butchered the song and should try next time to sing with a wider range of pitch and tone. The song should be fun and up beat, he made it sound blank and lifeless. I didnt feel like dancing around when i heard him sing it, and thats what music should do, unless it's a song in a minor key, then it's a sad song. All in all I love the show, I think it's a lot better than American Idol, mainly because I prefer rock music than any other type of music, plus this show makes you feel like you're there watching and feeling the music.
I think that the Band was too hard on JD. He is the front runner and they had to come down on him to make it more of a show. He did not do well and knew it. He tried something new and when he realized it was not going weel tried to get the crowd into it to no avail. I think it is odd how Dave and INXS say some were good when they seemed bad but say others were bad but seemed alright. Must be all about ratings.
I was JD's biggest fan 2 weeks ago. He has shown his true colors these past 2 weeks he's a snake, talented yes, but he got too cocky. The house band told him that his version would suck. He talked Jordis out of taking that song, than when he found out he couldn't sing it, he tried to take it back. Character counts as well as talent, I can usure you that he will be in the bottom 3 tomorrow night.
I think Jessica is just trying to use her looks instead of her voice. She cant sing! She's horrible!!!!! I cant even imagine her being the lead singer of INSX. Ty needs needs to wrap it up. He's too animated almost like he is performing in a circus! Too much. I think the real winner will be MIG because he's consistent yet versitale. I think he could sing almost any song and it would sound great!!!
Jordis... She's simply amazing! She's the closest thing that I've ever seen to an angel on stage. The face is adorable, and the voice is intoxicating. I believe that she will emerge from this a huge star, with or without INSX. And it will be rightfully deserved too, and how many things can we honestly say that about?
i can see now that Mig will be the right one for INXS Band, hes the only one who didnt suffer from the buttom 3..he got the looks, the voice, the style and most of all the attitude!!!WELL DONE MIG!!! YOURE THE TRUE CHAMPION!!!Well always pray for you...
since i'm watching your show and judging too at the same time i'm pretty much sure that MIG got the big chance to bring home the major prize... he's awesome God! i can't wait to se that moment...i'm so excited!!!
I'M FROM DAYTON OHIO AND AS LL ALONG I LIKE MARTYHE SEEMS TO BE ALE TO GO ANWHERE WITH HE MUSIC...BUT THEN AGAIN J.D ID PRETTY HOT YO AD HIS VOICE IS VERY STONG. I'V WATCHED THIS FROM THE BEGINNING AND IT HAS BEEN VERY INTERESTING....I A BIG MUSIC FAN..SO YOU'R THE ONLY REALITY SHOW THAT I WATCH...GOOOD LUCK TO ALL.....
