American Idol puts two strong singers in bottom two curlio
 2005-03-31 03:26:03
Misc. The judges of American Idol were shocked tonight as the voters placed two of the strongest singers in the bottom two. Host Ryan Seacrest said that another record setting number of votes were recieved, 32.5 million, but that wasn't enough to keep Anwar Robinson and Jessica Sierra off of the bottom two.

First up was the group performance of "Everything is beautiful." I thought it was a lovely song, but Anthony Fedorov was a bit off. This is the third of the singles to be chosen from for the charity single. You can vote for your favorite on the show's website. Overall it was a good group performance.

At the end of the commercial was another Ford commercial featuring the AI contestants, this time as puppet-people. The contestants were made into puppet heads that were placed on human bodies, and had puppet hands as well.

After the commercial, it was time to put two people into the bottom, once again Nadia Turner was in the bottom three. Joining her was Jessica Sierra. As they went to commercial again, Ryan said that it was once again a choice between Anwar Robinson, Vonzell Solomon, and Anthony Fedorov, just as last week. This time it was Anwar going to the bottom three.

Ryan then asked Simon Cowell if he would change the bottom three. He said he would replace Nadia with Scott Savol. Ryan asked Jessica if she had prepared for this. Jessica said she didn't expect to be in the bottom three. Then Nadia was told she was safe. After the break, Randy Jackson said he would save both of them, calling them two of the better singers. Paula was very surprised with the bottom three. Ryan wondered if the audience should be judging on overall performance or each night's performance, though he didn't really get a clear answer from anyone.

After that, Anwar was safe, and Jessica Sierra was going home. As usual, the show closed with Jessica singing.

Personally I don't agree with the decision. She's been one of my favorites, and has been in my top three 3 times in the last 5 weeks. I don't think she did that wonderfully last night, but I thought she had a lot of potential and a great voice. I'd rather have seen Nikko, Anthony, and Nadia all leave before her.

As for Anwar and Nadia, you've got to wonder if they're going to step up their game now. Nadia has been in the bottom three twice in a row now and I wonder if she's really got what it takes to win. A lot of people were saying she would win, but I don't think she's got the fan following that she needs to win. As for Anwar, he needs to be consistently good, and he hasn't been so far. He's got a lot of potential, but he needs to get really good very quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if Nadia goes home next week, unless she gets a whole lot better.

But now back to Ryan's question - should the contestants be judged on overall performances or on just the one night? I think both should be taken into consideration, with it being a 60/40 split, with the 60 on the side of the one night. Everyone can have an off night once in awhile, and if they're overall great it shouldn't be held against them. On the other hand, a horrible person can have an excellent night, but that doesn't mean they should stay, does it?

My favorite to win is Bo, but I also like Nadia. Both of them are different than any other AI finalists in the past. Carrie can sing, but she is just so bland. Just so nice and safe and blah. Boring! Constantine doesn't have the best voice, but he is a good entertainer and he has lots of sex appeal. One of my early favorites was Anwar, but he has been boring and inconsistent as of late. The bottom three, to me, are Scott, Nikko and Anthony. Scott is SO negative and has such a "gangsta" vibe...regardless of anything else. I don't think he is the best vocalist in the competition, "body image" aside. I think Nikko is out of his league in this competition, although he tries hard to be a good entertainer. Anthony is SO annoying and smug. He is too much like Clay Aiken (whom I loved in the Season Two competition); I think AI needs some "new blood" to redefine itself. Vonzell has been really good during the past few shows...way to go, girl!! I love that Nadia is so different...I like her a lot for that.

In my opinion the latter blew it, not the Dixie Chicks.

I still believe Jessica blew it big time bringing up the dixie chicks as her fav band.
Its just like saying that my fav person is Jane Fonda in my book. JF,FTB!!! and see what happens.....
When you open your mouth (yes you are allowed to in the good ole USofA) but be anti American......you will pay the price. Ask the DC's and their accountant! :P

They were not anti-american, they were against Bush, which happened to be the president. They were against the iraq-war, which a lot of people are/were, and a lot of them are still pro-america. Or do you have to blindly condone everything the president does, and if you don't are you anti-american then?

they put themselves in the bottom.I like Nadia and her performance was better than the follow week, but it was bland. She was trying to Hard.

Anwar can sing, but that was a horrible song choice.People say his glory note saved him,but that glory note was flat.I feel Anwar was also trying to hard. That performance was terrible.

they both deserved to be in the bottom 2.
Now Jessica should have been safe and Anthony should have been in the bottom 3.Anthony or Scott.Jessica has been consistent. She's not my favorite, but she should still be there.

Scott is basically from Cleveland, Ohio (yea it says Shaker Heights, but once you get so far north on I-77 it's all Clevelands, trust me on that one). Cleveland is very much a ghetto town. It's not a nice place to be anymore. The suburbs used to be nice, but they're not either anymore. The schools suck, the jobs suck, the roads suck, the police suck, etc. It's not a nice place to be, for the most part, and you can really see that from the young people emerging from there. Ohio in general has seriously taken a nosedive. Nice place to visit, but I'd advise you to live in Pennsylvania, Indiana, or Michigan.

But anyway, that would be why Scott looks so hard. Hey, the boy was raised less than an hour away from where Brian Warner, aka Marilyn Manson, was raised, and about the same distance from where Jeffrey Dahmer began his killing spree. We're darn good here in Ohio, aren't we? They should put that on the tourist books :D

AI/FOX would be in trouble if next week they they have the DC's as the guest singers and have the AI's sing DC songs....... all the singers would be voted off and what would FOX do then?? hehe

ok ok...no more DC stuff...... i hope its down to the 2 rockers, Bo and Con

peace out!

I think that it was unfortunate for Jessica to go, because she had great talent and showed a lot of versatility in the types of songs she chose. I don't see why Carrie couldn't have been voted out or soon will be, because she only does one style: country. Vonzell: you go girl!

ME TOO!!!!

I like Scott. I think he has a great voice. Past is past for me - on any and all of them. I don't think it should matter if they tell about a criminal record or not - and if they are "good" what does it matter? I mean look at Rueben and his entourage... how much trouble are they in right now?? and he came in with a squeaky clean history didn't he?

The industry warps people anyway - so what does it matter if they are warped before they start or after they make it big??

I don't think Scott is good enough to take the whole show, but I do think he deserves top six or maybe five.

I felt bad that Jessica got voted off. Thought she had a chance to win it a few weeks back. Like many I believe that Carrie will win AI 4. But my favorite is Vonzell. One thing is for sure- there will be an opening for a postal employee in Ft. Myers because she will never deliver the mail again!!!!

I feel bad that people feel bad for these contestants when they're voted off (or, more appropriately, didn't get the votes to continue).

Jessica didn't get the votes to continue because her performances didn't spark. Yeah, she had a great voice, but in the end, there wasn't much about each performance to remember. People will remember Vonzell's Whitney turn, Constantine's Partridge and Bonnie Raitt turns, Carrie's Heart turn. Nadia stayed because she's more of a personality (although she has to learn to smile and choose more pop-friendly fair), and Anwar stayed because he earned a fan base in the semifinals with his memorable renditions of classic tunes.

Nikko out of his league?? Um no I DON"T THINK SO..Nikko is just getting started and if you really believe he belongs in the bottom 3, apparently AMERICA who is voting each week disagrees with you seeing he has remained out of the bottom 3 for the past 3 weeks. To me "Cant hit the right note" Anwar is-OVERRATED, Kareoke Singing Anthony is-OVERRATED, "VEIN POPPIN Nadia-OVERRATED..Those 3 should definatly get the boot before Nikko, including Boring Scott. I can't bear to watch him another week.

Some of you people don't understand the appeal of Nikko..Nikko is hip, he has flava and he appeals to the teeny boppers who watch MTV, VH1 and BET. So he won't be leaving anytime soon. Those are the ones powervoting everyweek and the ones who will buy his CD when it is released.

Alot of people are scratching their heads over Nikko's song choices which doesn't surprise me considering this show is all about oldies, vanilla pop, and elevator muzak.

I think many of the folk hating on Nikko for his song choices are clueless when it comes to modern R&B. When it comes to R&B singers on this show, people want to hear the same ol' bullmanure. Case in point? Vonzell. She's another Whitney wannabe, but people eat that crap up cuz it's more of the same. Her (boring! safe! been done a skillion times!) performance had me rolling my eyes, but I knew America would love it cuz it was classic AI blandness. No flava at all. Not everybody wants to be like Vonzell and sing the same ol' kareoke bull$hit songs everyone's heard a gazillion times before.

I think Nikko's choices show who he is. I like that he's being himself instead of pandering to pop muzak lovers. I like his hip-hop vibe and the fact he's more like a combination of Usher and Stevie Wonder. I like that he actually moves *to the beat* of a song instead of standing still looking like a deer in the headlights. I like that he embraces more obscure but contemporary R&B rather than the same ol' Luther and Stevie joints everyone's heard 17238972974274727 freakin times. People forget that there are ALOT of us who *DO* know and love contemporary R&B and LOVE Nikko's interpretations. And for the record, he sounded NOTHING like TC on "Can We Talk." TC loves those runs but thankfully, Nikko didn't go overboard with them at all like Tevin has been known to do. Slimeon was once again swiggin' the ol' Haterade when he made that comment.

Just to keep it real, I hope Nikko continues to pick songs that leaves the muzak lovers of America scratching their heads. Come on Nikko, keep it real. How 'bout some Jagged Edge? Case? Donell Jones? 112? Musiq? Keith Sweat? Oh how I love the possibilities.

"love Nikko's interpretations"?!?

The problem with Nikko is that he hasn't interpretted anything since "Georgia on my Mind". His subsequent performances have been pitchy copies of the original. He hasn't been bad, but he's not original or on-pitch enough.

I suspect he'll still go pretty far in the competition, because he fits a genre that isn't covered by the other contestants.

I agree Foo....

Nikko is unique in the competition. There isn't anyone else doing that genre of music and so there will be a big group of young people who will vote because that is the music they like. He doesn't have the developed talent of some of the others.... just because his dad can play in the major leagues doesn't mean Nikko can. I still think Jessica has a much better voice. It goes to show that America votes for all sorts of reasons other than talent.

Looks
Personality
Where the contestant is from

But NOT voice.........

like Simon CONTINUALLY says - it is a SINGING competition Americahehehe [/b]

Geeze... I've been reading through the messages on this board and I can't believe how ignorant people can be.

I'm not going to say much more than that.... just be aware of your own biases, people.... TRY and think through things without approaching them from your already skewed view of the world.

We all have biases, and it can work wonders to just be aware of them.

I think I am totally aware of my biases.....

and I speak from my heart - wrong or right - but it is my heart - I don't hide them - I'm not a hypocrite about how I feel or what I think

I'm not "politically correct" - and I don't expect people to hide their true feelings toward me in some attempt to politically correct either....

bias lives through hiding and lying about it - not from opening it up for inspection and retrospection
